1 day, 2 court hearings, 4 boys
so as most of you know, we went to court yesterday for 4 different boys. biggie and smalls who have been with us for a year as well as their baby brother, sugar ray, who lives with friends of ours, and tiny, who is totally unrelated and has been with us a few weeks. we were thankful for the convenience of both cases being on the same day at the same place.
tiny's case was before the other boys. his case is still very new and lacks much direction. the hearing was like an overly complicated version of who's on first. he will get to visit his siblings and his mother soon so hopefully that is progress.
then they called the other boys case. we went into the courtroom and there she sat. their mom. it was the first time I had seen her since March. she was sitting with her back to us. as everyone piled into the court room she turned around and scanned the room as if she was looking for someone. but it clearly wasn't any of us. she didn't even scowl at us. she simply looked right through us. she was shaking the entire hearing. I don't know if it was in anger or fear or anxiety or all of the above. I have never wanted to hug someone and yell at them and FIX their hair all at the same time (she has GORGEOUS hair, but it needs some help!)
if you recall from our last case, they ordered a tpr on her. (if you don't remember or you missed that blog, click here.) they told us that it would be done in 60 days. apparently that is code for one year. the judge said yesterday that he would see us back May 4th, 2016 and he wanted all parental rights, mother and father, for each boy terminated before then. so that is a step in the right direction. there is still some potential for the boys to be moved with potential relatives, but with each step it becomes less and less likely that will happen and more and more likely that we will be applying for adoption summer 2016? maybe? but don't worry. we have learned not to hold our breath. anything is possible at this point.
so for now we are all 5 happy and enjoying life. we are getting excited about the holidays and seeing friends and family that we haven't seen in a while. I had lunch today with 3 other foster moms and I was reminded of how thankful I am to be part of such a unique community. there is so much love and strength and understanding. and an instant bond that can't be explained. we love this life and wouldn't tade it for anything. despite the indecision and lack of direction or clarity. thanks for all your support and prayers for yesterday. keep them coming!
